DHA and EPA – The Heart Friendly Omega-3 Fish Oils

The challenge today is that a reasonably healthy diet is typically high in sources of omega-6 essential fatty acids, but low in sources of omega-3 fatty acids, and particularly low in two key omega-3 fatty acids called docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA). Alpha-linolenic acid, an omega-3 fatty acid, is converted by enzymes in the body to DHA and EPA. While Omega-6 and other omega-3 fatty acids are found in plants, it is principally marine animals that have the high levels of DHA and EPA we need. DHA and EPA are often referred to as fish oils for good reason. Coldwater fish, like the sardines and herring used by BRUNSWICK®, contain the high amounts of these heart healthy fatty acids.
